Horizon Organic chocolate milk recalled for potential spoilage. Here are the impacted cases
(Gray News) - A popular milk brand is recalling cases of its chocolate milk because the cartons could cause the milk to spoil before they are opened.
Horizon Organic is recalling more than 50,000 cases of its shelf-stable organic 1% chocolate milk. According to the company, some customers reported the cartons appeared bloated. The milk could spoil prematurely and may have an “unpleasant taste, odor, and/or texture.”

The cartons were sold in the U.S. in 18- and 12-packs. The recalled 12-packs can be identified by their UPC number, 742365002700, or their “best by” dates, Jan. 28, 2027; Jan. 30, 2027; Jan. 31, 2027; Feb. 1, 2027; Feb. 2, 2027; Feb. 3, 2027. The 18-packs’ UPC number is 742365208867. Their “best by” dates are Jan. 31, 2027; Feb. 1, 2027; Feb. 2, 2027.
Anyone who has the milk cartons in their pantry is advised to throw them away but keep their receipt or proof of purchase. Horizon Organic said consumers should call 1-888-494-3020 to see if they are eligible for a refund.
Horizon Organic said it is investigating what caused the cartons to bloat and possibly spoil. Once the cause is determined, the company said it will implement “corrective and preventive” measures so it does not happen again.
