Ford recalls Mustangs, Broncos, Explorers over issues that could cause power loss
(Gray News) - Ford has issued two recalls affecting nearly 160,000 Mustangs, Broncos, Explorers and other models because they might suddenly lose power.
Which Ford vehicles are included in the recalls?
The first recall is for 148,663 2024-26 Mustangs that may have a wiring harness problem. The second recall is for 10,001 2026 Bronco, Bronco Sport, Explorer, Ranger and Mustang vehicles with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine.
Why are Ford Mustangs being recalled?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the ground eyelets in the Mustangs may fracture and cause the vehicles to lose drive power.
The issue could also cause headlights, air conditioning, the engine cooling fan or the windshield washer fluid pump to stop working.
What is the issue with the Ford 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine?
NHTSA said there may be piston failure in the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine of 2026 Bronco, Bronco Sport, Explorer, Ranger and Mustang vehicles.
Some warning signs drivers may notice are the check engine light turning on, an engine misfire or unusual engine noises.
What will Ford do to fix the vehicles?
Ford has already started notifying dealers and owners about the 2024-26 Mustang recall and will replace the wiring harness ground eyelets.
Ford will inspect the 2026 Bronco, Bronco Sport, Explorer, Ranger and Mustang vehicles and replace pistons if necessary. Dealers and owners have been notified of the recall.
