Officers said the child found the bill. After the child handled it, adults noticed a white powder on the child’s hands. Testing confirmed the substance was methamphetamine, police said.

The child was checked out medically and is safe, police said.

Investigation ongoing

Police said they have no evidence the bill was placed to hurt or poison anyone, but the case remains under investigation.

What parents should know

Authorities are using the incident as a reminder to teach children not to pick up money, pills, powders, containers or anything unknown in public places.

If a suspicious item is found, police advise not to touch, smell or open it. Residents should keep children and pets away, alert management or police and wash any exposed skin immediately. Anyone concerned about contamination should seek medical attention.
