GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) - The City of Gulf Shores - Municipal Government Facebook says changes are coming to beach parking this coming Wednesday.

It says beachgoers in Gulf Shores will see updated paid beach parking rules beginning July 1, with city leaders saying the changes are designed to improve parking turnover in high-demand areas and make it easier for customers to access nearby shops and restaurants.

The City of Gulf Shores said the updates were developed to address long-term parking issues, reduce extended stays in busy beachfront lots and create a clearer, more consistent system for visitors and residents.

New rates and hours

The city’s updated paid parking rates include:

  • $2 per hour in public areas north of Beach Boulevard
  • $3 per hour in public areas south of Beach Boulevard
  • $4 for overnight parking between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The city noted that overnight parking remains prohibited after 2 a.m. in beachfront lots and at Lagoon Pass Park.

Residents: what’s changing

The city said residents can continue to park at no cost in all public beach parking areas with a valid Hurricane Re-Entry Decal. East Gulf Place remains resident-only.

Enforcement and penalties

Parking violations carry:

  • $75 per violation
  • An additional $75 every 24 hours the vehicle remains in violation

Vehicles may be towed or booted if parked illegally or if fines are unpaid, according to the city.

Where paid parking applies

The city said paid parking applies in designated areas including:

  • Gulf Place
  • West Gulf Place
  • Public parking north of AL 182 (from East 3rd Street to West 2nd Street)
  • Other posted, designated areas

How to pay

Drivers can pay using the ParkMobile app, on-site pay stations or posted QR codes. The city said ParkMobile can send reminders and allow drivers to extend parking remotely.
