MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile police said that as of 12:40 p.m. today, a standoff on Tuscaloosa Street ended peacefully and the suspects are in custody, but three officers were injured.

One of those officers was shot and is in critical condition at a local hospital, officials said.

Police said two officers were injured in an accident in route to the location and were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

MPD did say officers did not fire any shots and that no one inside the residence was shot.

At a press conference this afternoon, Mobile Police Chief William Jackson said the investigation is fluid and ongoing.

MPD responded to the scene in the 100 block of Tuscaloosa Street just before 10 a.m. today on a report of shots fired.

When police arrived on the scene, the suspect fired shots at them injuring one officer, and later shot at an armored vehicle, Jackson said.

The man and a woman came out of the house around noon and were taken into custody peacefully, Jackson said.

“We used every asset we could to make sure it ended that way.”

Jackson identified the suspect as Justin Senia, 40. Police initially said it was unclear what role the the woman, later identified as 34-year-old Arielle Perreault, had played in the incident. However, both were booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail.

The police also said it is still unclear what triggered the incident.

Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said one officer was shot after a single subject opened fire on the officer as the officer approached the house. The mayor did not release the officer’s name but said he is undergoing surgery and is in critical but stable condition.

“I’m asking for you, for everyone in our community to pray for him, pray for his recovery, pray for his family and pray for the entire MPD family here as we go through this difficult time,” Cheriogotis said.

The mayor expressed pride in “the bravery, professionalism, the restraint that were shown today by the Mobile Police Department.”

Mobile Public Safety Director Curtis Graves said officers “were able to avert something could have been very detrimental to our community and we’re thankful that that did not take place.”

He said he want to encourage the community to stand with and support MPD “as we support you.”

Graves added, “We’re thankful to God that nothing worse happened today. But we also want this to let this be an example of what it looks like to be a team, because MPD showed the entire community what it looks like to be a team. And we need other team members to stand with us and help us do what we do – and that is improve public safety. It does truly take all of us and we want to make sure that we can mitigate circumstances like this.”

Senia and Perreault were booked on multiple charges, including attempted murder. Both have bond hearings scheduled for Monday, jail records show.
