Court hearing for lawsuit over Centreville mayor’s race moved to February
CENTREVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) - A court hearing was scheduled for Friday morning, Dec. 5, in a case involving the recent mayor’s race between incumbent Mike Oakley and challenger Barry Cooner. But that hearing has now been pushed to February.
Election records showed Oakley lost by two votes. Mayor Oakley contested the results and sued.
The hearing was scheduled to get more clarity, but on Thursday, Mayor Cooner’s attorney filed a motion to continue the hearing.
That motion was granted and the new court date is now set for February 26 in Bibb County.
Court records show Mayor Cooner’s attorney says he has “discovered new evidence” in the case.
Mayor Cooner will remain mayor until otherwise ruled by the court.
