Alabaster sends crews to clean up trash truck liquid in neighborhood
ALABASTER, Ala. (WBRC) - WBRC is getting answers from Alabaster city leaders after neighbors say a trash truck dripped a foul liquid in their neighborhood.
This happened in the Sterling Gate area.
City leaders said they got word of the issue a few weeks ago and have since then sent crews out to clean the streets and fix the trash trucks.
Fred Hawkins, Director of Infrastructure and Public Services, said this is a common issue for trash trucks, sometimes the hydraulic lines break causing an orange, smelly liquid to leak out.
However, the city says its not dangerous or harmful and crews used specialized equipment that spray deodorant and cleaner and then sweeps it all up.
“We do have equipment to clean the streets, but you know streets are made from cars and trucks and everything drips oil and it does stain. Over time that fades but we do clean it up the best we can and try to keep all of our streets in Alabaster looking great,” Hawkins said.
Hawkins said the do ask that you report concerns using the city app so they can continue to keep the city clean.
