Kalen DeBoer set to make SEC Media Days debut
DeBoer takes the podium for the first time as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide

DALLAS, Texas. (WBRC) - SEC Media Days at the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas provides a different feel. Not just the location itself, but a number of new things coming to more than just the Southeastern Conference, but all of college football.
For starters, Texas and Oklahoma now join the SEC with division-less conference; no longer an East and West. Instead, the top two teams advance to the SEC title game. The bigger picture is that the playoffs will now include the top 12 ranked teams at the end of the season as opposed to the original four. Amidst all the changes, Kalen DeBoer is set to make his SEC Media Days debut as the new head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The legendary Nick Saban is in a new role, working with ESPN and the SEC Network, and learned what it’s like as a member of the media. Saban forgot his media credential on day one and had to turn around to grab it. Many changes for many different reasons, but DeBoer and the Crimson Tide believe there will be little to no drop off, following Saban.
It will also be different for members of the SEC competing in a conference without Saban on the sidelines. Two former assistants of Saban made sure to give him his flowers.
“Obviously, we communicate more now than we did in the past as we were competitors, but there’s always been a mutual respect and a lot of appreciation,” Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart says.
Smart also mentioned his time spent with Saban not just in Tuscaloosa but also with the LSU Tigers and Miami Dolphins.
“You know, to go win a national championship and work for the best coach in the history of -- I was getting ready to say maybe of all sports,” Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin says.
A big talk in the offseason with DeBoer now the man in charge at Alabama takes the podium for the first time at SEC Media days on Wednesday. The Alabama Crimson Tide kick off their season Aug. 31, hosting WKU.
