BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Birmingham police now say that the homicide investigation of 23-year-old Raul Angel Cajigas Jr. has been ruled as a justifiable death by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office.

On Feb. 26, police were called to the 200 block of 3rd Avenue SW. around 9:45 p.m. after a ShotSpotter was activated. While police were en route to the scene, the call was updated to a person shot.

Upon arrival, Birmingham officers saw Cajigas lying on the sidewalk unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived and took him to UAB Hospital where he died.

Officials say that it appears Cajigas may have been in the course of committing a robbery when he was shot.
