BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - After a week on the road, the Samford men’s basketball team returned to the Pete Hanna Center Tuesday night for the squad’s home opener against Mississippi College.

Achor Achor will be a name to keep an eye on this season as he led the team with 17 points as the Bulldogs claimed their first win of the season, 96-52.

It marked the first of nine straight home games for Samford. The Bulldogs won’t have to go back on the road for a game until Dec. 19. The team had two pretty massive non-conference games to open the season with a trip to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on No. 2 Purdue followed by a matchup against VCU.

Two tough losses, but now a chance to be back in front of the home crowd and try to build some momentum. Samford returns to action on Friday hosting South Carolina State.

“When we play these home games I expect it to be the same in reverse,” Samford head men’s basketball coach Bucky McMillan said. “I expect a team to come in here and it be very difficult for them to play against us but also play against our fans.”
