BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Kicking is what made Brandon Aubrey a star.

The former Birmingham Stallions kicker has found his new kicks with the Dallas Cowboys as their new placekicker. Here’s the catch -- or you could say kick -- Aubrey never played a snap of college football and here he is kicking field goals in the NFL with his childhood team.

“I got the ball after the game,” Aubrey said after making his first career NFL field goal. “It was great, but like I said right back to it. Keep the mind sharp and focused on the next kick.”

Aubrey grew up in Plano, Texas, and was a former Notre Dame soccer standout. He had a short stint in the MLS, but the story goes that he and his wife were watching an NFL game one day and saw a kicker miss a field goal. His wife told him that he could do that, so Aubrey went to work and trained hard.

There was a mutual connection between his kicking coach, former pro kicker John Carney, and Stallions head football coach Skip Holtz that led to an opportunity for Aubrey to kick with the Stallions. Aubrey lit it up in the USFL going from the league’s best kicker in 2022 to missing just a single kick in 2023. And, of course, helping the Stallions become back-to-back champions.

“We didn’t know what we had until the first game and then Brandon, I mean, ever since the first time he went out there he never flinched,” Holtz said. “I mean, pressure did not get to him at all.”

Aubrey spent two seasons in the USFL playing for the Stallions and is now kicking in a whole new world in Jerry’s World.
