‘Seeing a really confident Byrum’: Alex Golesh says new Auburn quarterback feeling good heading into 2026 season
TAMPA, Fla. (WBRC) - For the 5th time in the last seven seasons, the Auburn Tigers will have a new quarterback behind center to start the season.
This fall, Byrum Brown will be the starter for the Tigers.
In year’s past, quarterbacks that have transferred to Auburn have played in other systems or played under different coaches. This time, it’s a little different for Auburn.
Brown played for Golesh at South Florida (USF) before entering the transfer portal and following him to the plains. Golesh says despite how fast-paced the SEC is, he can see the confidence in Brown.
“You’re starting to see Byrum really confident in the throw game, really confident in the run game. But, more than anything, confident in the guys around him.”
Golesh also spoke on how important it is to have a healthy roster around Brown.
“This tight end group is finally healthy, which is huge for us. Like, I can’t explain how big it is to have a healthy tight end room that’s got depth in it now, so you’re seeing a really confident Byrum.”
Brown threw for over 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns under Golesh with USF in 2025.
