State troopers increasing patrols for Fourth of July weekend
ALEA’s ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign is now in effect
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is urging drivers to take driving seriously as more people hit the roads for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
State troopers will be positioned on some of the busiest state roadways over the Fourth of July weekend. They will be looking for speeders, drunk drivers, distracted drivers and aggressive drivers.
High visibility is part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign now in effect. State troopers want drivers to see them on the roads.
This year, state troopers are also partnering with local agencies to set up safety checkpoints for the entire holiday weekend.
Authorities asked parents of teen drivers to talk to their kids about driving responsibly.
“So have meaningful conversations. Remind them of the Alabama graduated driver’s license law. And if your festivities include alcohol, closely monitor that alcohol to minimize the chances of that teen driver getting his or her hands on that alcoholic beverage,” said Sgt. Reginal King with the Tuscaloosa State Trooper Post.
