Giant T. rex sculpture turns heads in Pike Road
PIKE ROAD, Ala. (WSFA) — Drivers on Highway 231 in Montgomery County now have a towering metal companion watching over their commute.
TK LLC, a metal fabrication company in Pike Road, recently assembled a giant Tyrannosaurus rex sculpture. It all started when the company’s owner took a trip to Las Vegas.
“He went [to] Las Vegas and saw the dinosaur and thought it was very interesting,” said TK LLC employee Taemoon Hyun. “Our company is a one stop metal fabrication, so it match, so he brought the dinosaur here.”
The company typically handles precision metal work, building tanks for industrial plants and control panels for Hyundai Power Transformers.
“We do metal fabrication work,” said TK LLC employee Katie Oh. “We build big tanks and also we build control panels.”
Getting the dinosaur from Las Vegas to Alabama proved complicated.
“It’s a long story,” said Oh. “It [took] more than one week and we paid a lot of penalties in transportation from Las Vegas to here.”
The sculpture, which some call Dooly after a Korean cartoon character, arrived in three pieces. Workers welded the dinosaur together and built additional Velociraptors to accompany it!
The company previously created another metal sculpture, which sits about 100 yards away from the dinosaur display, a huge eagle. So, what’s next?
“Maybe a horse!” said Hyun.
The company welcomes visitors to stop and take pictures. It’s located at 10613 Troy Highway (Hwy 231) in Pike Road.
