Significant flu activity seen in area
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Alabama Department of Public Health lists the entire WBRC viewing area as seeing significant flu activity or having lab confirmed cases.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also lists a large part of the southeast, including Alabama, as having high flu activity.
That being said, medical professionals feel this flu season is not turning out as bad as last year.
They also say it’s never too late to get a flu shot. It takes about two weeks for it to become effective.
“Go ahead and get yourself protected now. Be sure to practice good hygiene, like washing your hands. Lysol. Wipe down any items that get touched multiple times by different people, kids' clothing, kids' backpacks,” said Betsy Stewart, with MainStreet Family Care.
