BRIGHTON, AL (WBRC) -

The words “RIP Lil T” are outlined in candles at the spot where police say 18-year-old Tyshun Miller was gunned down in a drive-by Saturday on Clay Street in Brighton. Miller later died at UAB. His close friends can’t believe he’s gone.

“Just broke down in tears.I can’t believe I lost my friend at a young age,” Tavares Kennedy said.

Police say a person of interest turned himself in. So far they haven’t charged him with anything.

Friends say Tyshun was a goofy kid who loved to crack jokes. Miller’s mother says he was quiet but loved to laugh. She says her son had a helping spirit.

She says moments before he was shot, her son yelled "get down" and pushed a friend to the ground. She is devastated and says her son was shot for no reason.

“He just has a free spirit about himself. He would do anything to help anybody. The violence needs to stop. This black-on-black crime needs to stop. It just don’t make sense. These are young kids. They haven’t even begun their life yet and their lives are getting taken for no reason at all,” Delvina Miller, Tyshun’s mother said.

Another friend Brandon Morris says he was shot not too long ago and feels Tyshun’s murder could have been avoided.

“I just got shot a couple of months back with these same group of individuals," Morris said. "I feel like when it comes to the law enforcement it's one-sided. This could have all been avoided if they do their job. He was a good dude and like I said he didn’t deserve to leave here like that."

Brighton’s police chief says the investigation is ongoing.
