60 years ago in 1963, thousands of children left school to walk to 16th Street Baptist Church to protest inequality and segregation. Many of them were met with water hoses and attack dogs and most of them were arrested and jailed. This was the catalyst to change across the world, ultimately leading to then President John F. Kennedy making a speech demanding a resolution and the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 the next year. The televised event was dubbed the Birmingham Children's Crusade. The children who are called the foot soldiers are now senior citizens who won't soon forget what happened.
