ATLANTA, GA (WBRC) - He's young, confident, good-looking and ... engaged (sorry ladies).
Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham looks the part of a big-time quarterback, and he plans on having a big season with the Tigers. The Texas native who transferred to Auburn from Baylor plans on taking his swag to the mountaintop, and his coach is ready for it to happen.
Gus Malzahn has coached dozens of quarterbacks, and at SEC Media Days on Thursday the Auburn coach said that if was going to identify the true team leader of his team, Stidham would be it.
"Every team needs that one true leader" said Malzahn, "and while we have many leaders, I would say that Jarrett has won the team."
How have the Tiger players accepted Stidham?
"When he came in here the players didn't go overboard because we didn't have to - he proved to be our leader just by being himself," said linebacker DeShaun Davis.
Stidham said he just wants to the best he can for the team.
While the Auburn quarterback had off-season shoulder surgery, Stidham says he feels great - and says his crop of receivers such as Nate Craig-Myers, Ryan Davis and Darius Slayton make him very excited.
The bottom line for the team this fall? So goes Stidham, so go the Tigers. The good news? Stidham is confident that he will do just fine in 2018.
