HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - Shoppers in Hoover got a jump in Black Friday deals with retailers opening on Thanksgiving.

Hundreds lined up outside Best Buy to take advantage of deep discounts on TVs, laptops and game consoles.

When retailers handed out Deal Buster tickets guaranteeing items like a 50 inch smart TV for $179, Brandon Moss scored the 28th and final ticket.

"Been waiting all week for this thing," Moss said. "When the paper starts dwindling in that stack you get worried you're not gonna make it. But hey, you get lucky sometimes."

If you wonder why people do it, a veteran Black Friday shopper said it's worth it.

Lisa Thomaston has been lining up and braving Black Friday and Thanksgiving Day crowds for 22 years.

She says it's part tradition and part good buys.

"Best Buy's a good one. Walmart, Belk's another good one. A lot of the stores have good deals. You have to go to each one according to your family. Best Buy has good deals on electronics and TVs," Thomaston says

She was the second to enter the store Thursday night, but she's not finished.

Thomaston, like other shoppers, will brace the lines when retailers reopen Friday morning.
