Police investigating burned car, body found at Trussville home

TRUSSVILLE, AL (WBRC) - Police are investigating a burned vehicle and conducting a death investigation at a Trussville home.
Firefighters responded to a car fire in front a house on Smith Simms Road at Mountain Ridge Road around 6:20 a.m.
One of the home's three residents was notified of the fire by a passerby at the same time he was trying to tell the other roommate that he'd discovered the body of the third resident, a man in his early 60s, in the back bedroom. The man appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Det. Michael Bruce of the Trussville Police Department.
At this time authorities are not sure if the body and the burned car are related.
Trussville's Fire Marshal is investigating the car fire. The Jefferson County Coroner's office will determine the official cause of death of the man.
The car belonged to one of the other two residents of the home.
Trussville police say there is no reason to be concerned for the safety of others in the community.
