SPRINGVILLE, AL (WBRC) - St. Clair County High School's football team mourning the loss of a beloved assistant coach who was found dead in his home early Monday.

St. Clair County Sheriff's Office found Michael Collins' body in his home on Evergreen Road in Springville.

Collins was an assistant football coach at St. Clair County High School and a librarian at Odenville Middle School.

"He was a really, really good man. Didn't have children of his own and treated the [school kids] kind of like they were his own kids," Matt Glover, St. Clair County High School's Head Football Coach said.

Glover says Collins' death is a big loss to the team and the community.

"Today when I talked with our kids, I just said hey just keep carrying on like he would want you to do. They are going to be hurting and sad," Glover said.

Glover also told players that the upcoming season will be dedicated to Collins.

"He was our film guy and so that's what I told the kids today. I said good thing about it he'll be filming you from a lot higher now. I think it will be something that definitely this season will be played for him and his memory. You know hopefully we can glorify him and everything that he's done to help these kids," Glover continued.

The football team is holding a vigil for Collins on Tuesday night at the high school practice field.

Investigators are waiting on autopsy results to determine how Collins died. No word yet if investigators have a suspect or suspects in this case.
