BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - City crews arrived at the Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Monument late Tuesday evening with supplies after Birmingham Mayor William Bell ordered the Linn Park structure covered earlier in the day.
While Alabama law says the monument cannot be removed, Bell ordered it to be hidden from view while the city looks at legal options to remove it.
Councilman Johnathan Austin and mayoral candidate and activist Frank Matthews have both asked for the monument to be removed.
