BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham police are investigating a Tuesday morning shooting that injured an 8-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man.

The shooting happened near a bus stop in the 6000 block of First Avenue North. Police say the child was with his mom when she saw a man and woman get into an argument across from the bus stop. When the mom and her son walked away from the argument, shots were fired and her son was hit in his leg.

The man was shot in the thigh. The woman ran away from the scene, but officers later picked her up as a person of interest.

It is unclear right now whether the person of interest is the shooter. The 8-year-old is recovering at Children's of Alabama and is expected to be released Tuesday. The man has already been released.
