LIPSCOMB, AL (WBRC) - A Lipscomb woman and her three children lost their home in a fire Monday morning.

Stephanie McRoy was getting ready for work and saw smoke coming from the kitchen. She was able to get her children ages 2, 11 and 14 out of the home on Margaret Avenue.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the fire. A battalion chief told WBRC that Lipscomb fire crews didn't have any units available.

"It took so long for the fire department to get here. If they would have reacted better we would have been alright, probably would have had something left," McRoy said.

WBRC called the Lipscomb Fire Department to ask why they didn't respond. We were told to call back later and ask for the chief.

A battalion chief said that vehicles and a lawnmower were in the garage and the gas inside them helped to fuel the fire, but what caused the fire is under investigation
