UA receives $5M donation

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - Friday, the University of Alabama announced one of the biggest endowments in the last 20 years is going to the College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Gaylon and Susan McCollough are giving the school more than $5 million.

The money will open the McCollough Institute for Pre-med Scholars.

Students will learn liberal arts and management skills along with medical training.

McCollough a teammate of Crimson Tide football great Jerry Duncan and Bill Battle under coach Bear Bryant, wants to help train the next generation of great doctors.

"And these are the kinds of skills we hope to be able to impart to other doctors as they're starting their careers," Dr. McCollough said.

University of Alabama President Stuart Bell says they hope to open the McCollough Institute for Pre-Medical Scholars in 2018.
