Employment & job training event in Hale Co. Wednesday
HALE COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - An effort to connect people across West Alabama with good-paying jobs and job training opportunities will be in Hale County Wednesday.
The Mobile Workforce Unit, operated through Shelton State Community College and West Alabama Works, will be at Piggly Wiggly in Greensboro from 3 to 6 p.m. The mobile unit is a van, equipped with computers and staff, to help people apply for available jobs and free job training.
Economic officials estimate 2,000 new automotive jobs will come to West Alabama over the next 18 months. Whether it is an automotive job, a job in another industry or the training necessary to get a job, the organizations want people to know opportunities do exist.
"We're trying to connect them, and we're networking with them to let them know there is an opportunity for them," Shelton State Training for Business and Industry Coordinator Ryan Sabbagh said. "Of course, the bottom line is employment. We want them to actually go to work for these companies within the West Alabama area, and they may not even know that information is out there."
Sabbagh said the opportunities available at Wednesday's event apply to a range of people. "Anyone that's actually underemployed, someone that needs a job, if you're looking to better your skills, if you're looking for education, there's several different reasons to come out."
For those with minimal work experience and educational background, Shelton State says it can assist them with gr ant funding for available options in Adult Education, Ready-to-Work basic skills training, forklift training, and certification for warehouse logistics.
