JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - 'Tis the season for cooking lots of delicious foods and the result of that will be cooking grease.
Jefferson County officials are reminding residents to never pour cooking oil or grease down their drain.
The say dumping the oil down your sink drain becomes a major threat to the environment when the grease makes its way into the county's water system.
Last Year, Jefferson County said it costs about $100,00 to clean up the grease and cover penalties.
There are 20 locations across the county where you can take your cooking oil and the county even offers residents a free container to put the oil in. They will not accept any glass containers and no fuel or motor oil.
