FAIRFIELD, AL (WBRC) - Two men killed in a deadly shooting in Fairfield Friday afternoon have been identified.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Darryl Dewayne Grace, 26, from Calera was found dead inside his car a few blocks away from the shooting. The other victim, Mandel Hardy Lawson Jr,, of Bessemer was taken to UAB Hospital where he died.

Police and emergency crews were on the scene of a Chevron gas station in the 3600 block of Lloyd Noland Parkway, where Fairfield Police Chief Nick Dyer says two men exchanged shots, hitting each other.

One of the men got into his car and drove off, according to Dyer, and made it to the intersection of Lloyd Noland Parkway and 41st Street Ensley where he wrecked his car into a light pole. That is where responding officers found him, deceased. It is not known at this time what his official cause of death is.

The other man died at UAB Hospital.

Dyer says his officers are questioning witnesses and no other people were hurt in this case.

Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service and a Miles College police officer assisted on scene.
