UPDATE: Body found in downtown Birmingham now being investigated as a homicide

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Police are now conducting a homicide investigation after a man's body was found in downtown Birmingham.
Officers responding to reports of a person shot found a Hispanic man suffering from several gunshot wounds under the interstate overpass in 1900 block of 9th Avenue North around 1:30 a.m.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the Birmingham Police Department.
Police say the victim may have been a transient.
