BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham police have charged at 13-year-old and a 17-year-old with burglary after they broke into a home Friday, July 29 in the 1700 block of Ethel Avenue Southwest.

The 13-year-old is in custody at the juvenile detention center but the 17-year-old suspect remains in the hospital after being shot by the victim in this case.

Police say the homeowner woke up around 2 a.m. when she found the teen had broken into her house. The homeowner fired several shots at the teen, striking him once. Once the homeowner realized they had struck the 17-year-old, they called 911.
