Man found shot to death near train tracks identified

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Police are investigating a homicide in north Birmingham after a man was found shot to death near train tracks on Thursday morning.
The Jefferson County Coroner has identified the victim as Alijah Donte Rogers, 21, Bessemer.
Officers responded to the 1700 block of 36th Street North in the Norwood community after a person walking near the tracks saw the body.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Based on this and other information, police feel this was not a random shooting.
Rogers had been shot multiple times.
"Based on the area where he was found, based on things we found at the scene, we think the person was really close to him or close proximity i'd say--so I'm not sure if he was really surprised by the person," Lt. Sean Edwards said.
Detectives are now trying to identify and find the suspect, Edwards said.
Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the homicide unit 205-256-1764 or leave an anonymous tip by calling 205-254-7777.
