BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A man is now charged with murder in the shooting death of a Birmingham teen.
Ian Tinsley, 22, of Birmingham is accused of fatally shooting Kelvon Julius, 15. Tinsley also faces an attempted murder and assault first degree charge. Another person with Julius that night was also shot.
The Jefferson County Coroner Julius was shot and killed in his vehicle around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4. It happened at 12th Street and 3rd Avenue South. Julius was pronounced dead on the scene. A female traveling with him was also shot and is in stable condition. Police say Julius and the female victim were waiting for a friend on the side of the road.
Police say the preliminary investigation revealed that several black males opened fire on the victims. The male suspects fled the area before officers got to the scene.
Police are still determining a motive in the case.
Tinsley is being held at the Jefferson County Jail.
