BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Governor Bentley's top aide and the woman he's alleged to have had an affair with, Rebekah Mason, released a new statement Thursday night denying a physical relationship with the Governor and clarifying she plans to continue working for the Governor.

"I have never had a physical affair with Robert Bentley," Mason said. "We have a professional relationship and a strong friendship. I am honored to serve alongside a great team as Governor Bentley's Senior Political Advisor.  I plan to continue in that role and I look forward to the opportunities our team has to make our state stronger."

Bentley denied a "physical relationship" with Mason on Wednesday but apologized for "inappropriate comments" to Mason and said he's since apologized to her, her family, and his family.

Mason is the only person listed on the incorporating documents for RCM Communications, a firm that's been paid $503,809 by the Governor's re-election campaign since June 2013. State records show the last time Mason was paid by taxpayer dollars as a state employee was 2013.
