Man shot to death in Walker County

WALKER COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - The Walker County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide.

Irvin DeWayne Mayes, 47, died of a gunshot wound at his home on Thomas Drive in Oakland around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, according to Sheriff Jim Underwood.

The sheriff said they expect to make an arrest in the case sometime on Friday.

Underwood mentioned the homicide at the end of a Friday morning news conference about the third arrest in the murder of Dora teen Nicholas Hawkins.

The sheriff did not give any other details about Mayes' homicide.
