TRUSSVILLE, AL (WBRC) - Police say a Birmingham man shot and killed his former girlfriend in an early morning murder-suicide in Trussville on Wednesday.

Investigators say Troy Derringer Demar Green, 29, shot his ex-girlfriend, 26-year-old Brittaney Owens, as she returned to the home she shared with her parents on North Lake Drive around 2 a.m. Feb. 10.

Police arrived at the scene between 2:15 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. to respond to initial reports of a two-car wreck.

Green blocked the road using his car, shot Owens and returned to his car where he shot himself, according to Trussville Police Capt. Jeff Bridges.

Green had previously been arrested on domestic violence charges involving Owen.

Bridges described the previous arrests as a situation making its way through the court system. He said he was not aware of any restraining order against Green.

Bridges said the two had a 3-year-old child.
