FBI: MO fugitives last seen crossing from FL to south AL on Wednesday
VESTAVIA HILLS, AL (WBRC) - FBI Birmingham officials say the Missouri couple wanted in a multi-state crime spree was last seen crossing over from Florida into south Alabama on Wednesday.
On Thursday, FBI Birmingham tweeted that Blake Fitzgerald and Brittany Harper crossed into south Alabama around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3 driving a black Ford F-150 with a broken window.
Fitzgerald and Harper are wanted on robbery and kidnapping charges in Alabama in a crime spree that began in Tuscaloosa on Sunday morning when authorities say they kidnapped a night clerk at the Microtel Inn and Suites.
They also face charges in the kidnapping and robbery of a Vestavia Hills woman and the robbery of a McDonald's in Hoover across from the Riverchase Galleria.
They are also suspected in an armed robbery and kidnapping in Perry, GA on Monday, Feb. 1. The suspects later let the woman they kidnapped from a gas station out at an exit on the interstate.
Earlier reports that the couple had been seen in Milan, TN on Wednesday were false, according to FBI investigators.
FBI Birmingham spokesman Paul Daymond said his investigators believe the Tennessee sighting was false. He said the FBI has an active and ongoing federal carjacking investigation.
The Milan Police Department later posted that the FBI in Birmingham confirmed that the fugitives were in Florida at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says that Fitzgerald robbed an Alvin's Island store, which sells beach gear and clothing, along U.S. Highway 98 in Destin around noon. Harper was with him at the time.
That same afternoon, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office says a Piggly Wiggly clerk was robbed at gunpoint. That crime scene is very close to where Fitzgerald and Harper were last seen crossing into Alabama. However, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office has not confirmed the identities of those suspects.
Both suspects are considered armed and dangerous.
The Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Fitzgerald and Harper.
