Jack's says it will help with funeral expenses of customer killed during robbery

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has released the name of a customer who was killed at a fast food restaurant in Pleasant Grove on Wednesday night.

Ashton Blake Roberts, 21, of Sumiton was shot and killed at the Jack's restaurant on Park Road during a robbery.

Roberts was the only the customer in the restaurant. Jack's workers say Roberts was a regular customer.

Jack's has released this statement about the robbery and homicide:

The entire Jack's family extends its heartfelt sympathies to the friends and family of the victims in last night's tragic shooting in Pleasant Grove. We commend the law enforcement for their prompt and effective action in this matter. Please join us in keeping the victim's family and friends as well as the Jack's employees present last night in your thoughts and prayers.

Roderick King, 19, is now charged with capital murder in Roberts' death as well as robbery in connection to to the incidents at a Burger King in Fairfield and a Papa Murphy's in Hueytown.
