TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - Authorities have arrested a man in connection with a kidnapping and robbery.
Tuscaloosa police responded to an apartment complex at 632 23rd Street East just before 3 a.m. on Thursday on a report of a possible kidnapping.
A 23-year-old man told police that he had been dropped off at the complex by a friend after leaving a bar.
The victim said the suspect, Cody Len Estes, 26, came up to him in the apartment and ordered him to call his friend who dropped him off to come back.
The victim then told police that Estes assaulted him, knocked him to the floor and then went through his pockets, taking his phones and money.
He told police that he was able to get away and run out of the apartment, but Estes chased him down, threatened to kill him and then dragged him back into the apartment.
About 20 minutes later, the victim said he was able to run out onto the balcony, jump to the stairs and run to a nearby convenience store to call for help.
Witnesses at the scene overheard the victim and suspect arguing about the victim damaging some property outside the apartment.
Estes was arrested for first degree kidnapping and third degree robbery.
He is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail.
