BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds on Monday night.

Police received a call at approximately 9:44 p.m. of a person shot in 5000 block of Wintergreen Avenue, Sergeant Bryan Shelton said.

When police got to the scene, they found a black male, who appeared to be in his 30's, dead in a front yard of a home. He had been shot multiple times, but the exact number is unknown, Shelton said.

On Tuesday, the Jefferson County coroner identified the victim as Mario T. Sparks, 30, of Fairfield.

Police believe Sparks was standing in the yard when he was killed. It's still unknown if Sparks lived at the home where he was shot, or what led up to his death.

Windows from vehicles of cars parked at the home appear to have been busted.

Birmingham police confirm the home is within Birmingham city limits.

Police do not have any suspects at this time and are working with neighbors to solve the crime.
