Victim identified in weekend west Birmingham shooting

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Authorities have identified the victim in a Saturday night shooting in west Birmingham.

James Earl Rogers, 27, was found lying in the middle of the 900 block of First Street West around 8:05 p.m. suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's office.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Early investigation revealed that the victim may have been shot following an argument, according to a news release from the Birmingham Police Department.

The unknown suspect fled the scene.

The shooting is still under investigation.
