Sheriff identifies victims, suspect in Walker Co. shooting

WALKER COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Walker County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a deadly shooting that occurred Saturday on Tate Road.

According to Sheriff James Underwood, a man and woman were found shot inside a house on Tate Road. Investigators pronounced the man, 45-year-old Scott Downs, dead on the scene and the woman, 35-year-old Amy Tidwell, was transported to UAB Hospital. She suffered a gunshot wound to the neck.

Underwood identified 45-year-old Ronald David Kell as the suspect. Authorities expect to charge Kell on Monday. He is being held for possession of a controlled substance and giving false information to a police officer.

Investigators are still trying to determine what led to the shooting but believe it was a drug deal gone bad.

Drugs that belonged to Downs were dound in Kell's pocket and a weapon was found in his car, according to deputies.

Underwood says Kell was Downs' cousin and Tidwell was Downs' friend.
