Corrections officer charged with trying to bring drugs into St. Clair Correctional Facility

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - A corrections officer with the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) has been arrested and charged with trying to bring drugs into the St. Clair Correctional Facility.

Stacy Bernard Brown is charged with promoting prison contraband, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, according to court records. He was arrested at the prison last week and taken to the St. Clair County Jail.

ADOC spokesperson Bob Horton released this statement on the arrest:

The Department of Corrections confirms the arrest of the correctional officer. But because of an ongoing investigation, the ADOC cannot comment further on the arrest. For the security and safety of Alabama correctional facilities, DOC has security measures in place to mitigate, and to prevent, the introduction of contraband into its facilities. The department expects the highest degree of integrity of its officers, and if an officer violates that trust, the department will prosecute the criminal offense to fullest extent of the law.
