Suspect charged in shooting on Miles College campus

FAIRFIELD, AL (WBRC) - A man was arrested in connection to a shooting that happened on the campus of Miles College in Fairfield over the weekend, according to police.

Chief Leon Davis said the suspect, whose name hasn't been released, was arrested around 10:18 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25.

The shooting happened during the morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 23, Chief Davis said.

He said the suspect was identified through a joint investigation between Miles College and Fairfield police departments.

The suspect had crack cocaine and marijuana with him when he was arrested, according to the police chief. He said the suspect will also face drug charges in addition to charges related to the shooting.

The evidence will be presented to the Bessemer division of the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for formal charges, Davis said. After the suspect is official charged, his name will be released.
