BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Some people are still roughing it without power from Tuesday night's storms.

More than 1,000 are still affected. Mountain Brook is one of the areas in the Birmingham Metro hit with widespread power outages. Other areas include Homewood, Vestavia and some Birmingham neighborhoods like Crestwood and Southside.

Alabama Power says it could be 10 p.m. Thursday before all power is restored. Utility crews are fanned out in all of these areas, working to clear downed trees, repair downed lines and get power back on.

Alabama Power has been tweeting updates about the challenging work. Some of the affected neighborhoods are densely wooded with hilly terrain.

Victims are coping with no power in this heat by doing the best they can. Some are keeping food in coolers and trying to stay positive.

"Kind of sweat it through last night. We had a couple of grand kids over yesterday afternoon which helped to clean up the yard and that's great. Why it got a little warm last night in the house. It sure did," said Dan Puckett, a homeowner.
