SUMTER COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - The mother of one of the men shot and killed in a double murder in Cuba in Sumter County says her son didn't deserve to die.

"My heart has been ripped out. My son wasn't supposed to be taken away from me," Yolanda Ruffin said.

Ruffin can't believe her son is gone.

"I'm supposed to be the one to leave. My son is supposed to bury me. I'm not supposed to bury my child," Ruffin said.

Investigators say DeMarcus Ruffin along with Matthew Kirksey were shot and killed by Michael Watson in June at mobile home in Cuba. Sumter County Sheriff investigators believe it was likely drug-related.

Watson was on the run for a month. He was captured Monday by U.S. Marshals after a police chase nearly a thousand miles away in Miami Beach, Florida.

With Watson's arrest Ruffin wants justice for her son. We've learned  officers spotted Watson making what appeared to be a drug deal. They approached him. He ran. After a brief chase, Watson was arrested.

With Watson's arrest, Ruffin is hoping for justice for her son.

"He will give you the shirt off his back. He will feed you. If you are short on your bills he would give you money to pay your bills. So for him to come in there and take that away from me and my family and me and my youngest son, I have a problem with that. So it's life for a life. Hey I'm on it 100 percent," she said.

Ruffin says if things were so bad between her son, and Watson why not settle their differences another way?

"Regardless of what he did or what people say he was doing, that still gives you no right to take his life. Why couldn't yall just fight it out like two grown men? Why did you have to take his life? That's a punk move to me," Ruffin said.

A move that's left Ruffin and her family devastated and trying to move forward.

"I'm asking God to work with me to get me to where I need to be  so I can get on with my life..but this right here is consuming my life," Ruffin said.

Watson is expected to be extradited back to Alabama later this week. He's facing capital murder charges. His girlfriend, Terrica Jones, is also facing charges. Jones was arrested by U.S. Marshals last week in Huntsville. Jones admitted to investigators to driving the getaway car for Watson.
