TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - Tuscaloosa educators who go above and beyond were recognized on Tuesday.

The Tuscaloosa City School board recognized 52 teachers who are nationally board certified.

The process goes above the mandatory requirements for education and is something these educators are proud to have completed.

"It was a very rigorous process. But it was well worth it. We see improved academic achievement in our students. We are full of wanting to further our own learning as well. And it has benefitted our entire schools," Oakdale Elementary School counselor Cynthia Smith said.

School leaders also received pens for the honor.

This is Alabama National Board Certified Teacher Week.
