Jerry Meyer could hear the shootout from inside his home on 13th Street in Northport.
"Back and forth boom, boom, boom boom. I thought somebody was going to get killed," Meyer said.
A bullet ridden mailbox wasn't the only casualty. The 29-year-old victim, who suspect Michael Eatmon was allegedly gunning for, was wounded by shotgun fire. His injuries aren't life threatening.
Captain Loyd Baker of Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit says the victim is involved with Eatmon's ex-girlfriend.
"The suspect came to the victim's house and was calling for him to come out from across the street. The suspect began shooting at the home and the victim went back inside, got a firearm, and returned fire," Baker said.
Eatmon turned himself in at the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office at 1 p.m. today.
FOX6 News Reporter Kelvin Reynolds caught up with his mother outside the building. Daisy Bonner admits there's a relationship between her son and the victim's girlfriend, but he's not involved in the shooting.
"She got a child by my son and his girlfriend got 2 little girls by her boyfriend. So it ain't nothing but some momma drama and daddy drama," Bonner said.
Eatmon is being held on charges of attempted murder and shooting inside an occupied dwelling. The alleged victim is not being charged at this point in the investigation.
