Final goodbyes made to fallen soldier

By Melanie Posey

BIRMINGHAM , AL (WBRC) - Through music, photos, and special honors, hundreds packed Liberty Church in Birmingham Monday to say goodbye to Army Specialist Andrew Hand.  "Andrew was a lion chaser," as remembered family friend, Tony Holmes through tears.  "He was not afraid."  Hand is originally from Enterprise, Alabama.  Hand was killed July 24 while serving in Afghanistan.  A roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle. Three other soldiers also died in the attack.

"It's not just in Alabama, we're losing those kids everyday," said Dave Hanes, a Patriot Guard Rider.  He was one of dozens who escorted Hand's hearse to his final resting place. "We show up to pay honor to the family and the hero and the community," Hanes said. "They don't have to mourn alone. America has lost one of her heroes in there."

Hand is a father of two. He was buried at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
