Birmingham to enforce front yard parking ban

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Birmingham Police Department has announced plans to begin enforcing a ban on parking in front yards.

Birmingham Police, in a statement Thursday to FOX6 News, said beginning Monday, May 10, 2010, officers would begin enforcing the recently approved city ordinance that prohibits parking in the front yard.

Until then, officers will distribute flyers about the ordinance to anyone found to be in violation of the ordinance.

The ordinance, Section 11-8-9, prohibits anyone within the city limits to park or place, within a residential area, a motor vehicle, recreational vehicle, boat, trailer, or other type of similar-wheeled conveyance, in the front yard of a residence, business, curb, sidewalk, unless it is parked on a paved and properly permitted driveway that provides access to a carport or garage that is incorporated into the main house structure; or that provides access to a parking area located entirely within the side yard or rear yard.
