Birmingham Police find man shot to death

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham Police found a man shot to death after 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night.

26-year-old Michael Turner was found inside an abandoned apartment suffering from a gunshot to the abdomen. The scene was at an apartment building near the intersection of Tuscaloosa Ave Southwest and 12th St Southwest.

Turner was declared dead by Birmingham Fire and Rescue at the scene.

Police have not identified a suspect.

This news release was issued on Wednesday morning to detail the homicide:

To date, forty-nine (49) chargeable Homicides have been reported in the City of Birmingham during 2009, compared to sixty-six (66) at this time in 2008.

Homicide #49: Was discovered on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at approximately 10:27 p.m., at 1017 Apartment F. Tuscaloosa Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama.

The victim has been identified as:

Michael Turner, B/M, 26 of 1220 4th Avenue West, Birmingham, Alabama.

Officers from the West Precinct responded to 1017 Apartment F. Tuscaloosa Avenue to investigate a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located the victim inside the abandoned apartment near the front door suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. This case is still under investigation. No arrests have been made.
